Copy Cats

Copy Cats send a big hello and hope your summer was a fun one. Our summer was a busy one for we were always on the go. I should say our club was always on the go. Due to some issues, I have missed out on a lot, but look forward to getting back into the swing of things. Our Club is lucky to have so many individuals who like to suggest and do things outside of square dancing. We met at different locations for food and chatter, danced at members’ homes and even tried Contra dancing. But we can’t forget the girls going to Painting with a Twist to try out our painting skills. This one I got to go to and had loads of fun. Look in the Promenader Photos and Features section to see our group holding our paintings. No, I don’t want you to say whose is best.

Our Open House on September 19 was a great success. We had 25 guests attend! Ron Brown did a great job introducing square dancing to them. We now have 20 “kittens” attending on a regular basis. Our 2017–2018 dance season is now in full swing. The places where we hold our classes and dances remain the same, but to be sure that we see you at them, here they are again. Our instruction classes are held on Tuesday nights starting at 7:00 p.m. at Bay Trail Middle School (1760 Scriber Rd. Penfield, NY). Unless otherwise noted, our dances are held at the First Baptist Church of Penfield NY (1862 Penfield Rd., Penfield NY). Our Board has worked hard to prepare a great dance schedule. For information on upcoming dances, please check out our flyers in the Promenader or on our website (www.copycatsdancing.org). We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming dances.

Hello fellow square dancers. I’m hoping you are having a great year of dancing so far. I’d like to start off by saying our East meets West dance had a great turn out. It would be nice to make a little bit more of a profit so I’m hoping next year we would have a much bigger crowd. It was a blessing to have Mike Callahan to call for us for the event and it was much appreciated. It was also a blessing that he did not charge us too much. Our thanks go out to him.

I’d like to welcome our club’s new caller: Ray Thompkins. He is certainly a godsend, and I’d like to thank Jim Dowd for his work in finding a caller for us. He is also taking over as our new president, but technically, I will still be the president since I have access to a computer while Jim does not. We also have Clayton Wing calling for us occasionally, until he goes to Florida in mid-November. Our Tuesday night schedule might be subject to change to a different night, but we just don’t know for sure at this point in time.

Our Club Christmas party is coming up on December 6, at 6:00. So, if you’re ever in the area, come join the fun. We would love to have you. Just bring table service, a dish to pass, and a ten-dollar gift to pass for our Christmas game—marking it His or Hers. Notice that there will be no dancing that night.

On March 28 is our ever-popular Pancake Dinner Dance at the Maple Tree Inn in Angelica. Dance admission is $6.00. For more information or questions call me at 585-330-1128 or Donna Witmer at 716-697-3005.

Grand Squares

The presence of colder, less sunny days makes inside activities more inviting and square dancing more than fills the bill. GRAND SQUARES has many dances to brighten your Thursday evenings. Our dances in December (14th and 21st) will be a great diversion from the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations. And hopefully, having survived the holidays, we have an exciting January planned. We had so much fun last year prolonging the Christmas spirit; we decided to hold our Christmas dance on January 11. Our caller/cuer Mike Callahan will give his Christmas music one more spin and everyone is invited to wear their finest Christmas attire one last time before retiring it for the year.

On the next Thursday (January 18) we will be celebrating Mike’s great calling and cueing and wishing him “Happy Trails” as he prepares to leave for a well-deserved vacation. Club members and guests are encouraged to attend as a Thank You for all he has done over the past year. In Mike’s absence we are happy to have Jim Gotta calling for our dances in February and March.

Hopefully weather will co-operate and returning good health will enable our regular dancers to join us. Though the regulars may seem few in number, we gladly welcome guests to help fill our squares. Come join us soon and often.

We meet at the First United Methodist Church of West Webster, 570 Ridge Road, West Webster on Monday evenings from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Dress is casual and comfortable.

Please note: We are on winter break now, and will resume dancing after our winter break on Monday March 26, 2018.

Please note: We will “begin at the beginning” of Phase III figures. This will not be a carry-over from 2017, so dancers who would like to learn or have never done Phase III figures will be able to participate.

Seneca Silhouettes

Seneca Silhouettes is a comfortable round dance club. We often take time to work out tricky parts. If you are in the neighborhood, we would love to have you join us Mondays from 2:00 to 5:00. If you would like a proposed program, email me at connie.rhogo2@gmail.com. We dance at the Trinity Church, 520 S Main St., Geneva, NY. Main Street is Route 14—easy to get to. From the Thruway or the south, just stay on Route 14. From Routes 5 & 20, look for the Route 14 sign. After you circle to Route 14, (Main St.), turn left and you are almost there—the first church on your left. Park behind the church and use the door on the left. We are at the top of the stairs. You will find us dancing on a beautiful wood floor. The program is easily altered, if there is something different you would like to do, and I have it. We will not be dancing Christmas Day, but will dance MLK day and President’s day. We rarely cancel, but it is always a good idea to call, just in case something has come up. The Church is in the process of reorganizing. Do call to see if we are still dancing at the church.

To Fulton we will go

We make our way on Fridays

To dance to Dave Eno

It’s that time of year. Snowbirds head to Florida. Snowy roads make it hard for some dancers to travel to Fulton to dance on Friday nights. If the roads are clear, come visit us to dance Mainstream and plus.

December starts out with our Quarterly Meeting during our class/club dance. On December 8, we will be bringing in toys for our Toys for Tots Drive. The 15th is our Christmas Party. We will have goodies to eat and the night will be alternate tips. The rest of December we will have no dancing so our members can enjoy the holidays.

January 5, will be our New Year’s Party; again with alternating tips. We will have chili and corn bread as our party highlight. The rest of January will be our regular class/club dances.

February 9, will be our Valentine’s Day Party and Pie Night. Wear red, eat pie and square dance … sounds like a great night. The other Friday nights in February are regular class/club dances.

We hope to dance with you this winter.
